If you have high blood sugar, you probably need to make some lifestyle changes. The first thing to do is to examine your diet. Cut out all sugary treats like candy, cookies, cakes, and pies, or reserve them for special occasions. Whenever possible, use alternative sweeteners, such as, Stevia.
You will also need to cut back on foods with a high glycemic index, such as, potatoes, rice, white bread, and white pasta. These carbohydrates are convert to glucose in the body. Although fruit and fruit juice are both healthy, they contain natural sugars which can still raise your blood sugar level.
Keep a watch on your daily intake of these items, and watch out for added sugars in bottled fruit juices. Exercise is also important. Be sure you get 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily to burn off the glucose stored in your body. Also, drink plenty of water to flush out excess sugar.
Studies have shown that consuming 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon daily, can lower blood sugar as much as 20-30%. Try sprinkling some on your oatmeal in the mornings, or if you prefer, take 5-6 grams daily in capsule form. Also, drinking a cup of green tea daily has proven to be effective in lowing blood sugar as much as 30 points in some individuals.
