It’s almost death to have diabetes especially if you are a chocolate addict. But what can you do but to force yourself to fit in a healthy diabetes diet. Yes, there can be some limitations to what you can eat. Don’t worry because the most difficult period is only the transition period, which will just last for a month or two. Actually, you can still eat some sweet foods, but these should have no sugar content or at least, have less sugar content.

Not only chocolates, cakes and other famous desserts are prohibited for a diabetic person. Here are the five golden ways if you want to have a diabetes diet that is healthy.

First Golden Way: Have Lesser Snacks

Some cultures taught people to eat only three times a day while some cultures have taught people to eat three main meals a day plus small snacks in between each meal. Hmmmm…sounds delicious and sounds you fall to the second culture. If you do, then this is certainly bad news for you: You have to cut down your snacks to maintain a healthy diabetic diet.

This does not mean, however, that if you eat 8 times a day, you should cut it down to three times a day. What you should do is have lesser snacks, not have lesser snack times. So for instance, if you usually have one apple and a full bowl of oatmeal in the morning, you may have half bowl of oatmeal only. If you usually eat six squares of a chocolate bar, then maybe you can cut it down to one or two.

Of course, you should choose the snacks you would have—no salt, no sweet, and only fresh fruits or vegetables as much as possible.

Second Golden Way: Wholemeal for Carbs

Forget about white flour. It’s not the ideal food for diabetic people. Instead of white flour, you can have wholemeal for carbs.

In fact, if you are planning to lose weight, the first food you should cut down in your list is carbohydrates.

You may still eat bread but make sure that you only eat freshly cooked bread with less preservative. If you want rice, better opt for brown rice of basmati rice. For potatoes, you may want smaller fresh potatoes since these taste more delectable than the bigger potatoes.

Third Golden Way: Choose Red Wine

If you are in a party and there are cocktails around, better not opt for that drink full of preservatives, sugar, and colorant. Drink red wine, instead. Tastes better and gives you better health than any other drink.

In fact, a certain study suggested that drinking a glass of red wine a day keeps the heart healthy.

Fourth Golden Way: More Fruits and Vegetables

Raw fruits and vegetables are the most nutritious. If you can’t eat these raw, then steaming is your next best option. If you still can’t it vegetables that way, then better cook these as how you want but never ever overcook the greenies.

Fifth Golden Way: Drink More Water

From health to beauty—the benefits of drinking more water is almost endless.

The problem with most people is that they are too lazy to get them a glass of water. If that’s your problem as well, then better bring a bottle of water with you—always. You may always refill the bottle with water again and again.

Easier read than done, huh? Just start it with your determination and you’ll see, you will have lower sugar levels in no time.

I have hypoglycemia and have started to change my habits. I am stuck on the exercise part. Not getting myself to do it but how to keep my bloodsugar stable afterwards. The answer is have a snack but what? How many calories so I can still lose wt?Prot+vege/fruit-what besides celery and peanut butter? Are protien drinks ok on the diabetic diet? I hope to move forward but I need answers. Sometimes I do a Spin class and a weight lifting class and occassionally a pilates/yoga class so a lot of calories are burned.
